Institution Overview

GGC campus building Founded as the University System's third "state college," Georgia Gwinnett College's mission is to provide a range of bachelor degree programs focused on the economic development needs of Gwinnett County and the surrounding area. Seven baccalaureate degree programs at the newly created Georgia Gwinnett College were approved by the Board of Regents' at their November 2005 meeting. The seven approved programs are: Bachelor of Science ("B.S.") with a major in Biology, B.S. with a major in Psychology, Bachelor of Science in Education ("B.S.Ed.") with a major in Early Childhood Education (including eligibility for certification in Special Education), Bachelor of Applied Science ("B.A.S.") with a major in Technology Management, Bachelor of Business Administration ("B.B.A.") with a major in General Business, Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology ("B.S.R.T."), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing ("B.S.N.").

At present, GGC offers a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Biology, Psychology and Information Technology; as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Business Administration.

The partners of the Gwinnett University Center are being phased out as lower-division students from Georgia Perimeter and upper-division students from UGA, SPSU and MCG graduate or transfer to other institutions. Once the transition is complete, the new institution will offer all undergraduate education, with UGA continuing to provide graduate programs and continuing-education courses. Georgia Gwinnett College has been offering junior-level courses since the fall semester of 2006, and will be fully operational by the 2008-2009 academic year. Degree programs will focus on four general areas that are important to meeting the needs of the region and the state: teacher education, information technology, business, and the health professions.
